Solutions for carpet, without replacing it….?

I would like to redo my room, however the walls and carpet are a different color than the theme I have in mind. Painting the walls is not a problem, but what about the carpet? I do not want to rip up and lay out a brand new carpet, so what should I do? To have numerous area rugs would be silly I think, and to have a large custom made area rug done would be just as expensive as pulling up the carpet, I think. Any ideas?

It would be very helpful if you could give the colors you want and the color that your carpet is. There are lots of tricks that can be used to pull a room together but I need to know of the colors first.
